MCM Ceramic Martz Table Lamp
MCM perfection in a form of a table lamp. By Gordon & Jane Martz /Marshall Studios. It features a monumental fluted ceramic base with vertically striped incising and walnut details. The color is wonderful mid century warm brown.
A bit of history: Martz lamps were designed by Gordon and Jane Martz for their family business, Marshall Studios, beginning in the early 1950s, with their innovative modernist ceramic and wood lamps appearing in catalogs and achieving widespread popularity throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and into the early 1970s. Their work is characterized by simple shapes, solid glazes, incised decoration, and wood accents. The earliest Martz lamps were introduced after Gordon and Jane joined Marshall Studios in 1951, and their general production style was in place by the mid-1950s, with tables appearing around 1955 and floor lamps and bookends by 1958.
