Low Rider Presents:  Sashiko Workshop with Nanci Hill Feeney

This Sashiko Workshop, held in the Low Rider Gallery, is designed to offer all of the basics to Sashiko. This rural, decorative and functional craft from 1600’s Japan enters our contemporary world seamlessly. The process brings with it meditative qualities which can help calm our busy world.

About your instructor Nanci Hill Feeney: her passion is sharing her love of creating with others. She offers years of experience teaching Sashiko, embroidery, paper crafts, sewing, cursive handwriting and letterpress printing.

Session 1: (March 7th 3-5PM)

The first session will cover a brief history of the craft, all of the supplies you’ll need and instructions to get started. Beginning with simple vertical and horizontal lines (tate-jima and yoko-jima) and moving into the fundamental styles of Mayozashi, Hitomesashi and decorative images will be covered.

Session 2: (April 4th 3-5PM)

The second session will focus on pattern transfer techniques, making and securing patches, knotting techniques, and resources. Also an introduction to Kuguruzashi, the flowing two step stitching process which employs a weaving technique.
