What is TRAMP ART you ask...

Why is tramp art called tramp art?

Some believe that "tramp art" was made by hobos who made art objects as they sat around campfires in so-called hobo jungles. The term probably comes from the German word "trampen", or hitchhike, and refers to German apprentices who traveled about learning the carving trade.

When was tramp art created?

Tramp art became popular in the 1870s after discarded cigar boxes became widely available. Cigar boxes are often decorated to make tramp art boxes such as jewelry or sewing boxes.

What are the tools needed to make tramp art?

Pocket knives are traditionally used to cut the strips of wood and cardboard used in tramp art. Other types of knives could be used as well.
